The challenge
One of our OEM automotive customers was looking for a high-end reusable packaging solution for transporting center consoles with an optimal protection. A specific challenge in this project was the request to develop a generic solution able to hold center consoles of 4 to 5 different car models.
The solution
Combining our experience in automotive packaging with our our advanced knowhow of materials and manufacturing techniques, we came up with a unique solution comprising welded steel, a stitched textile dunnage and vacuum formed bottom inserts shaped to the specific geometry of the parts. The inside dimension of each pocket were dimensioned to the biggest part variant and specific features were implemented to guarantee an optimal fit for each of the variants. The rack is designed for random access to each part and easy loading & unloading. A big ergonomic plus for the operators!
The result
We were able to provide the highest possible pack density and a generic design to fit multiple part variant without compromising on handling and part protection. The generic design, allowing our customer to load parts of up to 5 different car models, resulted in significant operational cost savings and a huge carbon footprint reduction.
